For each of the five springs when Roger Clark was the WGH Program Director, the station had an annual competition for a May Queen. The first was Glenda Pierge, who was a Hampton Hign student and was crowned as the WGH May Queen of 1963. She received her crown from actor George Maharis of the Friday night CBS-TV show Route 66 at WGH's Memorial Day weekend show during the final week of '63 at the old Alan B. Shepard Convention Center, also known as the Virginia Beach Dome. The May Queen and members of her court became Platter Princesses fpr a week. For the queen it happened in May, and for the court members the week of being a Platter Princess happened in June, July, or August. That was a tradition that happened in '63, '64, '65, '66, and '67. By May 1968, John Garry was the PD, and he dididn't buy into that concept.
